The frustration of old friends

*CRAAAAASHHH*
Another loud sound came from behind the apartment’s door.  Hillary was cringing at the loud sound and Kenny was pacing frantically back and forth.  Daichi sat firmly in the corner, unaware of the seriousness of the situation.
“He’s gonna destroy the entire room if we don’t calm him down!”  Kenny screamed, pulling at his hair like a stressed out old father at a wedding.
“Well there’s no use getting so worked up about it, we might as well let him blow off steam, you know no-one can get through to him when he’s like this!” called Hillary after him as an attempt to calm the stressed bunny down.
He stopped pacing and stared at Hillary hard.
“Are you nuts!?!” he screamed.  “Have you any idea how much this is all gonna cost!?!  Have you thought about all the precious technology he’s destroying in there!?!  Have you!?!”
“Oh for crying out loud, Kenny.  Is that all you worry about?  Tyson’s really distressed here!  He just lost to Ray!”  She turned to face the door.  “Our best hope is to let him get it all out.  That’s the only way anyone will get to him.” she sighed.

“You sure about that?” came a familiar voice behind them.  They both turned simultaneously.  “Billy!” they both screamed, as Kenny ran up to her and wrapped his arms tightly around her body.
“Err, nice to see you too Kenny.” she choked.
Kenny quickly took hold of himself again and let go.  He straightened himself up.  “Err... hi, Billy.”  Billy smiled at the embarrassed boy.   Daichi jumped up.
   “Who are you?” he demanded.
“Wow!  You got a mighty loud voice for someone who’s only three centimetres away from me.”
“Ohh, are you trying to be funny?  Because I’m not laughing, miss!”
“No dear, I can see that.”  Billy replied pushing the boy to one side, as she was very aware that this boy was in fact smaller than her.  Then her eyes caught sight of Hillary in front of her.  “Hey Hillary.” she nodded.  Hillary just stared at her.  Her look of concern had quickly changed to avoidance.
“You reckon you can get through to him?” she asked directly.  Billy’s smile faded and she swallowed as she too put on this look of avoidance, but her look had a hint of sadness about it.
“I always could.”  She said quietly, yet firmly as she pushed past and knocked on the room’s door.
“Go away!” came the reply from behind the door.
Billy sighed, “Yup, it’s gonna be one of those nights.”

“I said…!” Tyson turned round to face the door and stopped in his tracks when he saw the familiar face from his childhood.  “Billy?” he gasped in disbelief.  She smiled, hoping for a better reaction that she received from Hillary, but less of one than Kenny’s.
   “Hey, Choppy.”  She smiled.
Tyson stood dead in the middle of the room staring at her for a few minutes, and then he collapsed into fits of tears, a heap on the floor.
Billy’s eyes swelled and she bit on her lips.
“Poor baby” she cried as she dived to the floor to comfort her old friend.  They stayed there crying for a few minutes, just holding each other.
Tyson looked across at Billy sitting beside him.  He dried his eyes.  “What are you doing here Billy?”
Billy laughed, “Oh hi Billy!  How are you?  How ya been?  Oh, fine thank you, had a long flight, but I’m used to it.”  She sighed.  Tyson looked at her
“Well, excuse me if I don’t appear to be jumping for joy, but you did kinda take off in a hurry, leaving us all worried.”
Billy looked deep into Tyson’s eyes as hers began to swell again.  “I was having troubles, ok?  I needed my space.  Besides, I wrote you, you were the one who never replied!” Her voice was a mixture of sorrow and anger.
“You needed space?  What about me?  I found out you and Kai had been…  I can’t even bring myself to say it, but the next day, you just take off!  No word?  And on top of that we find out he’s been beating you?  Plus you took Drantail!”  Tyson was now standing, looking down on Billy as she just looked at the floor to take his abuse.
She looked up.  “Tyson, you have no idea why I left, do you?” Her eyes bubbled with held back tears.
He looked at her confused for a moment.  “…yes!  Because that creep hit you!”
“NO!”  Billy yelled back, stumbling to her feet.  “It was you, Ty!”
Tyson stopped.  He stared at her.
  “What?” he whispered.
“You’re the reason I left, not Kai!” she cried as her tears began to flow freely.  “Oh God why do I get so emotional about these damn things?” she muttered to herself as she dried her eyes quickly.  She sniffed.  “It was because of you and your stupid big headedness!  Have you any idea what I did for you?  Once you found out about Kai and me… you were so upset.  That’s why Kai and me where arguing, and that’s why he hit me!  And he barely did anyway!  It was nothing!  But because of you!  Because of you I gave up everything: Kai, Ray, the Bladebreakers… you.  And all because it hurt me too damn much for me to see you so upset, but I knew I couldn’t hang around and stay away from him… so I left.  Yeah, I took Drantail, but is that really so bad?”  She stood there, breathless after her long speech.  Tyson just stared at her.  He slowly sat down on the edge of the bead and looked at the floor.
“…” He swallowed.  “You did that… for me?”
She looked at him, and then walked swiftly over to his side and sat down beside him.  “Yeah…  I did.  Now will you stop this child’s play, and tell me what’s bugging ya?  Or do I have to force it outta ya?”  She smiled at him, and he too broke into a smile.  “See, that didn’t hurt too much now did it?” she teased, and he hit her softly on the arm.

“You’re the best Billy, you know that?”  Tyson praised as he hugged her.
She grinned and muttered, “well I wouldn’t go as far as the best, but I’m pretty high up on the list.”  She laughed at her own genius, and Tyson broke their hug and smiled at her.
   “Thanks,” he said sincerely.
Billy raised her arm and put her left hand on his right shoulder.  “Hey, I’m just returning the favour Hun.”
“Ok,” Tyson nodded, looking down at the floor.  He lifted his head and looked straight at her.  “I’m ready to talk.

A loud sound of laughter issued from behind Tyson’s door as Kenny and Hillary stood eagerly waiting.
“It sounds as though he’s cheered up a little,” Hillary stated.
“Yeah, thank God for that.  At least he’s stopped trashing the place,” Kenny sighed.
“Oh Kenny, you are intolerable sometimes!” Hillary snapped.
“HEY!  You still haven’t told me who this girl is yet!”  Daichi screamed as the two continued to ignore him.

“Ha ha, yeah those were good times.”  Tyson was now lying down the centre of the bed with his head firmly rested across Billy’s stomach, as she lay across the other way, with her knees bent and one leg hooked over the top of the other.  “You were mad back then.”  Tyson continued to recall.
“I still am mad if you hadn’t realised,” Billy laughed as Tyson joined in.  “You know, even though we haven’t kept in contact, I’ve still read up on your progress,” Billy said, her tone now changed.
Tyson looked up at the ceiling.  “Then why didn’t you come sooner, you could have entered with me.”
Billy looked across at him.  “You know I would have, but I didn’t find out 'til after it had happened, and you’d already made Daichi your official partner.  Things have gotten a lot harder to hear about since…” she stopped dead.  Suddenly the tone in her voice changed dramatically, and she jumped into an upright position “…where is he?”  Tyson’s head slung right into her lap, and he quickly sat up too.  He grabbed her arm.
“You’re not going Billy, you gotta get over this!” he begged as she promptly got up and dragged him along behind her as she marched to the door.
“Where is he?” she demanded again.
“Look Billy, it was over ten years ago now, you gotta drop it!
She opened the door quickly then slammed it shut behind her, and leaned against it firmly.  She forced a smile at the three attendants, and then continued to march down the hall.  She turned promptly right and went three doors down then knocked firmly on the door.  No answer.  She did it again; only this time it was more of a banging, as she smacked the door hard with the bottom of her palm.  The door slowly opened.
“Billy!” gasped the surprised voice of Hero as he opened the door, but he didn’t have a chance to get anything else in.  Billy pushed her way in and stuck her finger right in his face - constantly talking without taking a breath, with a frightful look on her face.
“Thought I forgotten didn’t ya?  Didn’t ya!?!”
Hero attempted to reply, but Billy continued before he had a chance.  “Well I didn’t!  No-one does that to me, you hear?  NO-ONE!  And you did it so many times I’ve lost count!  How could you take me for granted like that?  How!? Yet you did at least five or six times!
Hero managed to scrape a few words in, as Billy gasped for some more air.  “Umm… are you still going on about those cookies I took from you when you were like, eight?”
“Hey, no-one steals cookies from me, Hiroshi Granger!”  I mean I wouldn’t be so bothered normally, but the fact that you continued to do it, and now… you don’t like them.”  Her face turned to a look of complete and utter disgust.  “Guh!  You sicken me!”
By this point she had him backed up against the wall, and was still pushing him backwards.  She continued to rabble on about the cookies, as Hero stood in desperation, trying to think of ways to stop her moth from moving.  The door had now swung shut, and in a moments thought, Hero lunged forward and gave Billy a full on kiss.  She was so startled she stumbled back a bit then pulled away, coughing and spitting.  “What the bloody hell was that for?”  She screamed at him
He sighed with relief.  “Got you to shut up, didn’t it?”
Billy just stood there and stared at him for a few moments.
“GAH!  You disgust me!” she screamed as she headed for the door, scoffing as she went.  She reached the door, and was about to turn the door handle, Hero called after her, “Billy?”
She turned and stared at him with an evil scowl across her face.  “Sort him out for me.”  Hero continued.  Billy’s features relaxed and she nodded in recognition.  Then she suddenly scowled back at him and waved him away with her hand as she left in a tantrum, slamming the door behind her.

“You gotta let me out!  She’s crazy!  You don’t know what she’s like, please guys!  Open up!”  Tyson banged hard on the door.
“You think we should let him out?”  Kenny consulted Hillary for the fifth time.  She sighed and slumped down to the floor.  “Fine, open the door, but if Billy gets mad, or he goes missing, you’re taking all the blame.”  Kenny, ignoring the last part of Hillary’s warning, jumped over to the door and quickly opened it.  Tyson came crashing through, but quickly got back up to his feet and began to run down the hall when Daichi propped himself right in Tyson’s path, and screamed, “Hold it!”
Tyson slammed on the breaks.  “…Wuh?  Daichi, get outta ma way!  I need to stop Billy!”
Daichi stood firm with his hand on his hips, shook his head and demanded, “NO!  Not until one of you morons tell me who this girl is!”
They all simultaneously let out a big sigh.  They knew better that to challenge Daichi's determination, so they were gonna have to tell him.
“She’s the fifth member for the Bladebreakers,” Tyson sighed.  “And a really old friend of mine.  There, you happy now?”  Daichi looked at him, confused.
“I don’t get it?  Fifth member?”
Tyson let out a huge sigh.  “Ugh!  I don’t have time for this!” he screamed, and he pushed past Daichi and ran down the hall after Billy.

“Long time no see,” purred a voice from behind her.  Billy turned quickly.
“Ray!” she screamed, pouncing on the guy like a kitten on a ball of yarn.  Ray laughed.
“How have you been?” he asked.
Billy dropped her shoulders and looked at him straight.  “You know?  You’re the first person who’s asked me that today.”
Rains smile faded.  “What, and you’re surprised about that?  You didn’t exactly leave us on pleasant terms.”
Billy dropped her head.  “Not you too.  My God - and I suppose you blamed Kai for my departure too, right?”  She looked up at him for an answer.
“Of course, that’s why you left.”  Ray looked a little puzzled as to why she reacted in such a way.
“Man, that poor guy, as if he wasn’t going through enough already,” Billy sighed, but Ray interrupted her.
“What are you talking about?  He hit you, I hardly call that nothing!”
“Yeah!  Well it was hardly a hit!  Besides I provoked him, and he was in a fragile state.  God if I can forgive him, despite my history with men, you guys should too!”
“What d'you mean?  Your obsession over him has blinded you Billy.  And you can’t see it.  Even if it was all the things you say.  It doesn’t make it justified, and you know that.”
“Ray, don’t.”  She began to get emotional again.  “I can take this from anyone else, but not you, not here!”
“Billy, it’s because I care about you.”  He put his arm round her and pulled her in for a hug, but she pulled away, tears now running.
“I mean, you’ve hit me!” she cried.  Ray looked puzzled for a second, then he realised what she was talking about.
“Yeah, but that was different, we were sparring.”  He laughed a little.
“Was it?”  Billy snapped back.  “I mean, you’ve hit me harder than he did, and more frequently, yet you say it’s justified, even though you were in a completely normal state of mind – you were in control!  I mean, you never once go up to a sparring partner and say “Oh, I’m so sorry about hitting you, I’ll never do it again,” right?”
Ray began, “yeah, bu...” but Billy didn’t allow him to finish.
“Kai must have been going through a really tough spot in his life, and you guys could do nothing but blame him?  Whatever happened to belief in the team… oh, well I guess we figured out what really broke this team up… me.”
Ray lunged on her at this point.  “Don’t be so stupid!  I thought long and hard about entering as a white tiger, and you didn’t come into the equation whatsoever!  Nor did my feelings towards Kai or Max!  Ok, so maybe we had a grudge against Kai for a bit, but, sorry, it wasn’t really anything more that our normal disappointment in him.  Kais a lost cause, and we know you can handle yourself, as does he.”
Suddenly, Tyson came charging round the corner, and grabbed hold of Billy yelling “NO!  Just let it go!” and then realised Ray was standing there too.  He stood up and looked at him with a dead expression.  “Oh, didn’t mean to interrupt,” he said in a cold, sarcastic voice.  Billy looked at him warningly to back off.  She turned to Ray.
“I’ll see you later.”  And with that, she stalked out, closely followed by Tyson.

“Ok, what was that?”  Tyson demanded, slamming his room’s door behind him as they entered.
“Oh what, so I can’t talk to Ray now, is that it?   Tyson looked at her, and she could tell he was hurt.  “We bumped into one another.  We started talking.  He understands that my loyalties lie with you at the moment, don’t worry.  We just had some issues to settle.”
Tyson continued to look at her, hurt.  Then he slumped down.  “k.” he muttered.  “I just- seeing you with him-”
“I know,” Billy jumped in.  She went over and sat down beside him.  She put her arm round him and pulled him towards her.  She looked around and smiled.  “Heh, this looks familiar.”
Tyson looked over to her confused, as his face turned to a stunned expression.  He backed away.
“Wow, Billy, I thought we agree not to go there again.”  He put up his hands to prevent her from moving any closer.   Billy chuckled to her self and looked at the boy.
“My God Tyson, you are an odd one.  Um, no, I don’t want to sleep with you again, I was just saying is all.  It reminded me of then, just, the other way round.”
Tyson let out a sigh out relief and moved back beside her.  “Good, because, I’m devoted to someone else now, and you know it, well, I mean, not that I was ever completely devoted to you… but you know what I mean.”
Billy looked at him, curious.  “She gave in?”
Tyson looked up with a doubtful face.  “No, but I’m ok with just remaining friends, I know she appreciates me at least that much.”
Billy pulled him in tighter to comfort him.  “She doesn’t know what she’s missing out on.”  She kissed him gently on the top of his head.  Then her eyes caught sight of the time.  “Shit.  It’s getting late, you better get some rest for now – you’ll need it.”  They both stood up and Tyson walked Billy to the door.
“Thanks Billy, you are a true friend.”  Tyson said as he hugged her good night.  Billy smiled.
“Mm, any time.  I’m just returning the favour, and you know it.”
Tyson looked up at her.  “Yeah, but even so.  You know, I’m not really all that tired, you think we could meet up some time early?”
Billy glanced at him.  “…ok, I’ll knock on your door at three, we’ll go to Central Park, ok?”
Tyson nodded, and went to open the door.
“Wait… where are you staying, then?”
Billy shrugged.  “I dunno - a cardboard box someplace?”  Tyson let go of the door handle.
“No, you’re gonna stay here with me.”  He demanded, but Billy placed one hand on his shoulder.
“Nuh-uh.  Not this time.  I’ll find somewhere, don’t worry.  Since my Auntie permanently moved out and left me an account in her name, I’ve been robbing her blind, literally.  She’s got so much of the damn stuff she doesn’t even notice when it’s missing, so I’ll be fine.  You just focus on getting some rest.  I’ll see you at three.”  And with that she kissed him on the forehead and left the room.
“Goodnight, Billy,” Tyson said to himself as he prepared for bed.
